The Institute of Hotel Management, Shimla, is situated amidst quiet, lush green surroundings with a picturesque view of the Himalayan Range. The old- world air of the times of the British Raj lends a quaint charm to the site. Located on the NH22, at Kufri, it is at just the right distance from the hustle and bustle of Shimla and is easily accessible by road. The tranquility of the location is ideal for providing an academic ambience for the serious learner. The Institute is well equipped with the necessary infrastructure for imparting comprehensive training to the students. The faculty comprises of qualified and experienced staff from various prestigious catering institutes of the country – Mumbai, Delhi, etc., who are committed to enabling and motivating the students to mature into individuals with a sense of responsibility and pride in their chosen walk of life.

 

The Placement and Industrial Training Cell of the Institute assists the students in arranging for training and placement in leading hotels. Campus interviews are held and the students are well placed in prestigious hotels like Taj, Oberoi, I.T.C. Hotels, Le- Meridien, Radisson Hotels, Hyatt, Imperial, etc., to name a few and in various international call centers – G.E., Daksh, etc. that are employing an appreciable number of our students today. Some students have also obtained jobs in countries overseas like Ireland and New Zealand and in international cruise lines as well. The well-stocked Library caters to the thirst of knowledge of the students in the field of hospitality. In addition to the curriculum, the students gain experience during the session by organizing theme parties, outdoor catering and functions in local hotels during Christmas, World Tourism Day, New Year, Chef Competitions and other occasions.

 

Placement:

 

Training: The Institute has a Training Cell, very ably managed by experienced faculty, which assists the students in arranging for Industrial Training in leading hotels and allied service sectors.

Apart from the tourism- related sectors, students also get absorbed in customer service- oriented organisations. Prestigious hotels and service organisations visit the Institute and hold campus interviews for the placement of our students. Eligibility:

 

For B.Sc in HHA:

  • Admission: The admission to the Three Year degree in Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Hospitality and Hotel Administration is being conducted by the National Council for Hotel Management & Catering Technology (NCHMCT), Pusa, New Delhi, through a Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) on the national level. Applications for admission to the First year of B.Sc. Hospitality and Hotel Administration are invited in December/January every year. Notification to this effect is made by NCHMCT in leading national newspapers. The Joint Entrance Examination is held in the month of April/May on a Sunday (notified in the advertisement) at different cities throughout the country. Based on performance in the written test, candidates are short listed for counselling by NCHMCT in the month of June. Allotment of the Institute is on merit-cum-preference basis. Candidates selected through the above process are admitted in the month of July, to the allotted Institute, on payment of the first term fee by the date stipulated by NCHMCT.
  • Minimum Qualification: Minimum qualification for admission is a pass certificate in the final examination of 10+2 system of Senior Secondary education or its equivalent with English as one of the compulsory subjects. Those appearing in 10+2 final or equivalent examination can also appear in JEE for being considered on a provisional basis.
  • Age Limit: Age limit is 22 years, relaxable up to 25 years for candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe as on July 01, of the year.

For DFBS:

  • Qualification: A pass certificate in 10 +2 level or Senior Secondary or equivalent examination with English as a compulsory subject. Candidates placed in compartment in the qualifying examination are not eligible for admission.
  • Age: Age of the applicant should not be more than 22 years as on July 01, of the year. The age limit is relaxable by 3 years for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates.

For CCFP:

  • This course trains the students in areas of Food Production including Bakery & Patisserie. This trade has great demand, both nationally and internationally.
  • Qualification: Passed class 10th of 10+2 pattern with minimum 45% marks and with English as one of the subjects in the final examination. Candidates placed in compartment in the qualifying examination are not eligible for admission.
  • Age Limit: Age of the applicant should not be more than 22 years as on July 01, of the year. The age limit is relaxable by 3 years for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates.
