Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology (NMIT) is an Autonomous Institution affiliated to the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), with the approval of UGC and Accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) under Tier-1 scheme and by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC-UGC) with A Grade.

 

Recognised as one of the finest educational institutions in Karnataka attracting students from all over India and abroad, the Trust has a Medical Sciences Complex at Deralakatte, Mangaluru and two well developed campuses at Nitte and Bangaluru.The Trust started in 1979 and is a pioneer in the field of education.  Under the banner of the trust are several institutions which include Nitte University and institutions of higher education like Engineering, Management, Medicine, Dental, Pharmaceuticals, Paramedical, Higher Education and several other schools in Mangalore with around 10,000 students and 3500 Employees. All the institutions maintained by the Trust have excellent infrastructural facilities such as experienced and dedicated faculty, spacious classrooms, laboratories and libraries. The campuses have professionally and aesthetically designed buildings, surrounded by gardens making it highly conducive for learning. Each is a self-contained campus with separate hostels for men and women with staff wardens, telephone and Internet facilities, co-operative stores, a post office and a bank. The system of teacher guardianship wherein a group of students are assigned a teacher is a unique feature of our institutions. This system helps a teacher attend to each student especially those who are weak academically. Professional campus counsellors interact with students having personal, disciplinary or emotional problems. NET (Nitte Education Trust) was founded in the year 1979. Eligibility:

 

For BE: The student should have passed 2nd PUC / 12th standard or equivalent examination with English as one of the languages and obtained 45% of marks in aggregate in Physics and Mathematics along with Chemistry / Bio-Technology / Computer Science / Electronics / Biology. In case of candidates belonging to Karnataka Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and other Backward Classes (Category I, 2A, 2B, 3A and 3B), the minimum marks for the purpose of eligibility will be 40% of marks in aggregate in the optional subjects in the qualifying examination.

 

For M.TEch: Admission to M.Tech course shall be open to candidates who have passed the prescribed qualifying examination (B. E./B.Tech) as specified in ANNEXURE with not less than 50% marks in aggregate of all the all the semesters/years of the degree examination. (Cumulative sum of secured marks of all the semesters/ years divided by the sum of maximum marks). However, in case of candidates from Karnataka belonging to SC/ST and Category-1, aggregate marks shall not be less than 45%.

For MBA: Admission to MBA course shall be open for the candidates who have passed the bachelor degree from a recognized university with not less than 50% i.e., integer (rounding-off aggregate percent is not permitted) of the marks in aggregate of all the years of the degree examination. However, in case of candidates from Karnataka belonging to SC/ST and Category-1, the aggregate percent of the marks of all the years of the qualifying examination shall not be less than 45%. (rounding-off aggregate percent is not permitted)

For MCA: Admission to MCA course shall be open for the candidates who have passed bachelor's degree from a recognized university with not less than 50% (rounding-off aggregate percent is not permitted) of the marks in aggregate of all the years of the degree examination, with Mathematics/ Statistics/ Computer Science/ Computer Programming/ Computer Applications/ Business Mathematics/ Business Statistics as one of the optional subjects/ electives at degree level. However, in the case of candidates from Karnataka belonging to SC/ST and Category-1, the aggregate percent of the marks of all the years of the qualifying examination shall not be less than 45%. ( rounding-off aggregate percent is not permitted). Provided further that a candidate who has studied and passed one of the subjects specified in the first proviso in the Pre University Course with 50% of marks in that subject shall also be considered for admission. However, in the case of candidates from Karnataka belonging to SC/ST and Category-1, 45%. (rounding-off aggregate percent is not permitted) of marks in that subject shall be considered for admission.

Facilities:

 

Hostel: NMIT has excellent residential facilities. There are four hostel blocks for boys and two hostel blocks for girls. These hostels can accommodate 1650 students in double and four-bed rooms. In-house wardens and the assistant wardens monitor the activities and services of the hostel to ensure the welfare of the students. The hostels have solar and electrical geysers that provide hot water. Students living in hostels have modern amenities such as recreation facilities, a library, T.V Room, cafeteria and stationary shop. There are facilities for various indoor and outdoor games such as Table Tennis, Badminton, Carom, Chess, Volley Ball, Football, Basket ball, Cricket and Hockey. In addition to these sports, students can avail of a gymnasium. Every hostel has a multiple Wi-Fi access points connecting hostel rooms to the various campus-wide network resources and services. Financials needs of students are serviced through a co-operative society. There is an on-campus medical center. To provide additional medical facilities, MoUs have been signed with hospitals such as Aveksha Hospital, M S Palya, Singapura Layout, M S Ramaiah Memorial Hospital at Mathikere, Bangalore. The hostel mess operates on 'no-profit-no-loss' basis. Students are served both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food catering to the taste of students from all regions of the country. The mess is equipped with an excellent seating arrangement, purified chilled water. The kitchen has steam cooking facilities. Students have sufficient parking facility for both two wheelers and four wheelers. They can also avail of college transport facility. A security agency provides security at the hostels. In summary, the hostel provides students with a comfortable atmosphere that is conducive to research and learning. Hostel life at NMIT is much envied within the student community.

 

Library: The Library & Information Center of NMIT(Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology) is housed in a spacious area of about 1000 sq Mtrs. The Center has a comprehensive collection of Books, Periodicals, Audio / Video CD-ROMs, E-Resources in Engineering, Basic Sciences, Management and General subjects to cater the needs of Faculty members, Research Scholars, Staff and Students. The intent of the NMIT Library is to support and enhance the learning, teaching, research, and service activities of the institution by providing organized access to quality information. The collection of the Library comprises of recommended books for courses, subscribed Print and Online journals and E-Book Databases Links to various Subject Gateways. Subscribed E-resources are IP authenticated and can be accessed through out the campus. The stack room is housed in the ground floor and reference section in the first floor. NMIT has a separate MBA Library. Every Department has its own Departmental Library. The library has a seating capacity for 300 people. The Library has a collection of 40,000+ books in various disciplines. The collection is organized using DDC (Dewey decimal classification) 22/e. NMIT subscribes to 100+ print journals and several on-line journal packages. The Library is fully automated using EASYLIB Library Management Software and Library activities are completely automated. All transactions take place through bar-coded technology.

 

Training & Placement:

 

The Training & Placement Department (hereafter called the 'department') is an indispensable pillar of the Institute. It has an important role to play in the student's prospects for employability. Placements provide an opportunity for students to demonstrate, in the real world, the application of the knowledge they have acquired over the years. This department continuously strives to help students acquire employment relevant skills so that they can pursue their career goals with challenging roles in the industryWe recognize the power and strength of our educational methods and the impact this has in providing suitable placement for students in the industry. Our department is a place where our prospective engineers create and develop skills relevant to the responsibilities they will should in the work place. We trust "To reap the benefits tomorrow, we need to sow the seeds today" and we act upon it. We earnestly work to transform the talent pool through training programs by experts from the industry.
