Purushottam Institute of Engineering and Technology, Rourkela established in the academic year 1999-2000 with the dawn of new millennium, as a pilot project under "Purushottam Education & Welfare Trust", is situated in the Western part of the state of Orissa. It offers Four Year Degree courses in different engineering discipline with the approval of AICTE, New Delhi, recognized by the Govt. of Orissa and affiliated to BIJU PATNAIK UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY, Rourkela and Sambalpur University, Sambalpur.

The Mission of the Institute is to build an enviable track record in the new millennium and to enable the future generations to play a key role in the technological scenario through 'Academic excellence' with focus on Quality Education, Research, Entrepreneurship and Innovation.Purushottam Institute of Engineering & Technology, Rourkela is managed by the Puroshottam Education and Welfare Trust founded in the year 1998 by a cohesive group of highly educated and enlightened persons from various socio-economic segments such as technocrats, administrative, practicing engineers, management personnel, Industrialists, social workers and esteemed senior citizens of the Steel City, Rourkela. The purpose of the Trust is to carry out diversified social, welfare and educational activities in the state of Orissa in General and Rourkela in particular. Besides community welfare activities, the trust also aims at imparting excellence in various facets of professional education such as Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics & Telecommunication, Electronics & Instrumentation, Management, Mass Communication, Banking & Commerce for which there is dirth of integrated institute in Orissa. The ultimate aim is to produce Citizens of Exemplary Characteristics (PURUSHOTTAM) from the most modern & integrated educational institution in India for imparting professional education, proposed to be named as "Purushottam Academy of Excellence".

Admission Procedure:

Admission to the B.Tech. and Masters Programme is strictly on the basis of merit drawn by the JEE (Main) and OJEE as per the norms and guidelines issued by the University and ETET, Govt. of Orissa and Govt. of India

Facilities :

Library : The provides library facility through the central library and departmental libraries. Keeping in view the fast changes in technology, the knowledge base of the library is updated regularly by way of adding new literature in the form of text books, reference books, reports, proceedings, abstracts & indexes, encyclopedias, data books, standards (National & International) Journals & database on CD-ROM. Apart from adding new titles, the basic literature is also procured for the new programmes along with current one. Some new section and services are also being started to make the library services of ISO 9001 standard. It has a rich collection of more than 1700 unique Titles and 16000 volumes covering almost all areas of Engineering, Science & Technology and Humanities. It is open to all students & faculty members, from where they can borrow the required books as per rules.

Transport : The institute owns 11 buses for the smooth transportation of the day scholars, boarders, faculty and staff members.

Hostel : The institute has three hostels for students & a guest house for the teachers. All the hostels are provided with modern amenities. These hostels have full time superintendents and teaching staff as warden looking after the hostel activities. The mess provide balanced and nutritious food. A four storeyed hostel with a capacity of around 800 is going to come up in near future.

Canteen : The institute has a canteen for both students and staffs. It is a spacious canteen providing delicious food, hygienic environment with aquaguard drinking water.

Laboratories : The well equipped spacious laboratories of PIET are designed and set up as per the norms prescribed by AICTE with an aim to provide every student the scope to critically examine the theoretical aspects and to develop the required skill. Beside the Physics and Chemistry laboratory, the Electronics Laboratory, (Analog, Circuit Design and Testing, Digital and Communication, DSP, VLSI) Power electronics Lab are well equipped with modern and computerized gadgets. All the Computer Laboratories of the Institute are of high standard. Two Internet laboratories enjoy connectivity through Software Technology Park of India (A Govt. of India Enterprise) leased line with high bandwidth. There are 270 systems to achieve 1:1 student and system ratio.

Training and Placement Cell :

The institute has a full-fledged T&P Cell managed by experienced professionals & consultants. Several firms have conducted Campus Interviews and a large number of our students from the 1st, 2nd and 3rd batch have already joined in various reputed organisations and 4th batch students have been selected/short listed. Many of our students being selected by Multinationals have already proceeded abroad.

Career development and guidance programs for the students are being conducted by expert professionals to guide and help students to know the avenues before them, choose career they wish to take up and successfully face the process of recruitment.Programmes on personality development, communication skill, spoken english and subjective coaching classes are also being conducted for the students to prepare themselves for competitive examinations, group discussions and interviews.
