About Us:


The All India Institute of Speech and Hearing was established in the year 1965 as an autonomous institute fully funded by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. The major objectives of the institute are to impart professional training, render clinical services, conduct research and educate the public on issues related to communication disorders such as hearing impairment, mental retardation, voice, and fluency and phonological and language disorders. The institute started with one post-graduate program in the year 1965 and now offers many courses including one Certificate course, 3 Diploma programs (Diploma in Hearing Aid & Earmould Technology, Diploma in Training Young Hearing Impaired Children and Diploma in Hearing Language and Speech-through distance mode); 2 undergraduate programs (B.Sc. in Speech & Hearing and B.S.Ed - Hearing-Impairment); PG Diploma programs in Clinical Linguistics and Forensic Speech Science and Technology; 3 post-graduate courses (M.Sc. in Audiology, M.Sc. in Speech-Language Pathology and M.S.Ed-Hearing-Impairment). The Institute offers Ph.D programs in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology and also Post-Doctoral Fellowships. Situated in a lush green campus of 32 acres adjacent to the University of Mysore in Manasagangothri, Mysore, it is a unique institute in the Asian sub-continent with its eleven departments and a well equipped Library and Information Centre. These departments have state-of-the-art facilities to offer inter-disciplinary training to the students.

 

AIISH caters to clients of all ages having a whole range of communication disorders. The institute attracts students from all over India and abroad. It has strived in the past 45 years in furthering the cause of professions of Audiology, Speech Language Pathology and Special Education throughout the country. The enthusiasm to excel in reaching out to individuals with communication disorders knows no boundaries. The institute has been recognized as a Center of Excellence in the area of Deafness by WHOM, as a Centre for Advance Research by UGC and as a Science and Technology Institute by DST. The institute has now been recognized as a Nodal Center for the implementation of National Program for Prevention and Control of Deafness of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India as well as for generating man power for the same. Till date, 1148 students have received undergraduate degrees and 915 post-graduate degrees from AIISH. In addition, 43 Ph.Ds in Speech and Hearing, Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology have been awarded under the table guidance of the faculty of the institute. Further, in the allied disciplines like Clinical Psychology, Linguistics and Electronics, eight faculty members in AIISH have obtained Ph.D and some are pursuing the same. AIISH is wholly financed by the Government of India and functions as an autonomous organization under the direction of the Executive Council with the Hon'ble Union minister of Health and family welfare as chairman and the Hon'ble minister of Health and family welfare, Government of Karnataka as the Vice Chairman.

Eligibility:

 

B.S.Ed (HI):

  • Admission to Bachelor of Special Education (Hearing Impairment) is open to candidates who have passed B. Ed degree examination of the University of Mysore or any other examination recognized as equivalent thereto by the University of Mysore
  • The candidates who have obtained a minimum of 50% of the aggregate (45% in case of SC/ST candidates) in the qualifying examination are eligible for admission.
  • Only those candidates who have not completed 30 years of age as on the 1st July of the academic year in which admission is sought are eligible for admission. Relaxation of age (up to 10 years) shall be considered for candidates on deputation/in-service with the approval of the University.
  • The selection will be on merit basis at All-India level, based on marks obtained by candidates in the qualifying examination.

BASLP:

  • Admission to BASLP (Bachelor of Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology) is open to candidates who have passed the 2-year Pre-University examination conducted by the Pre-University Board of the State of Karnataka or any other examination (10+2) considered as equivalent thereto by the University of Mysore.
  • Candidates who have obtained a minimum of 50% (45% in the case of SC/ST candidates) in the PCMB group or combinations thereof, in their PUC or qualifying examination are eligible for admission.
  • Only those applicants who have studied at least three subjects from among Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics shall be eligible for admission
  • Only those candidates who have not completed 21 years, as on 1st July of the academic year in which admission is sought, are eligible for admission.

M.Sc (Audiology):

  • Candidates with a BASLP/B.Sc. (Speech & Hearing) degree of the University of Mysore or any other University, approved by RCI and considered as equivalent thereto with an average of not less than 50% of marks are eligible for admission.
  • Note: 'Average' refers to the average of the aggregate marks of all the years/semesters of BASLP/B.Sc. (Speech & Hearing) course]
  • Only those candidates who have not completed 30 years of age as on 1st July of the relevant academic year shall be eligible for admission.
  • Admission shall be made only on the basis of the marks obtained in the entrance examination conducted by the institute for this purpose. Further, only those candidates who secure more than 40% in the entrance examination are eligible for admission.

M.Sc. (Speech-Language Pathology):

  • Candidates with a BASLP/B.Sc. (Speech & Hearing) degree of the University of Mysore or any other University, approved by RCI and considered as equivalent thereto with an average of not less than 50% of marks are eligible for admission.
  • Only those candidates who have not completed 30 years of age as on 1st July of the relevant academic year shall be eligible for admission.
  • Admission shall be made only on the basis of the marks obtained in the entrance examination conducted by the institute for this purpose. Further, only those candidates who secure more than 40% in the entrance examination are eligible for admission

M. S. Ed (HI):

  • Admission to Master in Special Education (Hearing Impairment) (M.S. Ed-HI) is open to candidates who have passed B .Ed degree examination and B.Ed (HI)/B.S.Ed (HI) or equivalent of the University of Mysore or any other examination recognized as equivalent thereto by the University of Mysore.
  • The candidates who have obtained a minimum of 50% of the aggregate (45% in case of SC/ST candidates) in the qualifying examination are eligible for admission.
  • Only those candidates who have not completed 30 years of age as on the 1st July of the academic year in which admission is sought are eligible for admission. Age relaxation of up to 10 years can be considered for candidates on deputation/in-service with the approval of the University

Ph. D (Audiology):

  • Candidates must have passed M.Sc. (Audiology) or M.Sc. (Speech and Hearing) or MASLP degree examination of the University of Mysore or any other examination considered equivalent thereto by the University of Mysore with a minimum of 55% (50% in the case of SC/ST) marks.
  • One year work/research experience after M.Sc. (Speech & Hearing)/M.Sc. (Audiology)/ MASLP.

Ph. D (Speech-Language Pathology):

  • Candidates must have passed M.Sc. (Speech-Language Pathology) or M.Sc. (Speech and Hearing) or MASLP degree examination of the University of Mysore or any other examination considered equivalent thereto by the University of Mysore, with a minimum of 55% (50% in the case of SC/ST).
  • One year work/research experience after M.Sc. (Speech Language Pathology)/ M.Sc. (speech and hearing)/MASLP.

Post Doctoral Fellowship:

  • Ph.D. from a recognized University in the area of speech, language and hearing
  • Research experience in any Institution supported by a certificate by the Head of the Institution is desirable.

DHAET:

  • Admission to Diploma in Hearing Aid and Ear mould Technology is open to candidates who have passed plus two levels with Physics background or any Diploma in Electronics/Electrical or ITI Electronics/Electrical or Dental technician course.
  • Candidates who have obtained a minimum of 45% of the aggregate (40% in case of SC/ST candidates) in the qualifying examination are eligible for admission.
  • Age should be above 17 years

DTYHIC:

  • Admission to Diploma in Teaching Young Hearing Impaired is open to candidates who have passed plus two level or equivalent education from any recognized Board.
  • Preference will be given to (a) graduates, (b) 12th pass with training in Montessori/ kindergarten/early childhood education (c) parents, siblings and family members of children with hearing impairment who satisfies the prescribed qualification.
  • The candidates should be above 18 years of age.

DHLS (Through Quasi Distance Mode):

  • Admission to Diploma in Hearing Language and Speech is open to candidates who have passed plus two levels with PCMB subjects.
  • The candidate should be above 17 years of age.
  • Candidates should have working knowledge in English and proficiency in regional language.
  • Preference will be given to candidates from rural areas, sponsored candidates from Government/ non-government/voluntary agencies.

PGDCLP:

  • Candidates with BASLP degree of the University of Mysore or any other University, approved by RCI and considered as equivalent thereto with an average of not less than 50% of marks are eligible for admission.
  • Note: 'Average' refers to the average of the aggregate marks of all the years/semesters of BASLP course.
  • Only those candidates who have not completed 30 years of age as on 1st July of the relevant academic year shall be eligible for admission.

PGDFSST:

  • Candidates who have passed in any of the following examinations of the University of Mysore or any other recognized University/institute with a minimum of pass class in the qualifying examination are eligible to apply.
  • B.Sc. with Physics/Mathematics/Electronics /Computer Science/Forensic Science/ Speech and Hearing as a major component at B.Sc. level
  • B.E /B.Tech /Electronics/Computer Science/Communication
  • M.B.B.S
  • Employees working in the forensic related field in forensic laboratories would be given preference.
  • No upper age limit is applicable.

PGDNA:

  • Admission is open to the candidates who have passed B.Sc. (Sp. & Hg.)/BASLP or equivalent from any other recognized university/MBBS/Masters in Clinical Psychology / Experimental Psychology / Cognitive Psychology with Neuropsychology as a part of the course.
  • Those with the above qualification, working in the electrophysiological lab or sponsored/deputed from any hospital, medical college or institution would be given an additional weight age of 2%.
  • No upper age limit is applicable.
