To promote technical education in this backward area, adjoining Haryana, Govt. of Punjab initially established it as a Government Polytechnic College, Lehragaga in 1996. Later on, in 2005, under the dynamic leadership of then Technical Education minister Mrs. Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, this Institute was given an autonomous status and launched as a unique Pb Govt established Institute to run Diploma and Degree level programs in Engineering and renamed as Baba Hira Singh Bhattal Institute of Engg & Technology, Lehragaga. The Institute derives its name from the great revolutionary during the freedom struggle of India, the renowned freedom fighter of "Parja Mandal Movement" Baba Hira Singh Ji Bhattal. The institute cherishes the same desire of selfless and committed service towards the motherland by imparting quality technical education to the masses in a non-profitable manner.

Eligibility:

B.Tech :

Admission is done on the basis of JEE merit list. All seats of this institute are filled through the central counselling conducted by Punjab Technical University Jalandhar. The statutory reservations are given in detail in the PTU Information Brochure (www.ptu.ac.in). Institute strictly follows the guideline laid down by the PTU/AICTE/Punjab Govt. from time to time.

A candidate will be eligible for admission to first year of B.Tech. Programme if he/she fulfils the following conditions:

He/ She has passed 10+2 or its equivalent examination ( Obtain at least 45% marks), conducted by a recognized Board / University / Council with Physics, Mathematics as compulsory subjects and any one of the following as optional subject: Chemistry / Biology / Biotechnology/ Computer Science.

                                                                    or

Those candidates who have passed diploma in any Engineering trade from Punjab State Board of Technical Education, Chandigarh with at least 45% marks or Diploma / Certificate course from Sent Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology Longowal or such Examination from any other recognised State Board of Technical Education.

• He/ She possess a good moral character.
• He/ She fulfil the conditions mentioned in the Punjab Govt. Notification incorporated in the PTU Information Brochure.
• He/ She fulfil the requirements laid down by the PTU Jalandhar/ this College.
• He/ She is a citizen of India.
• (Admission will be made on the basis of rank of JEE(Main) conducted by CBSE, New Delhi for both 85% quota for resident of Punjab and 15% quota for outside Punjab.

Diploma :

For 1st Year:

• Admissions to Diploma Courses & Diploma Through Lateral Entry.
• The candidate must have passed the Matriculation examination or equivalent examination in Mathematics, Science (Physics, Chemistry & Biology) and English from any recognised Board. Apart from the above basic education qualifications, the general eligibility criteria shall be as contained in Punjab Government, Department of Technical Education and Industrial Training Notification No. 13/2/2010-1TE-2/165 dated 12/01/2012,which can be seen in Part-II of the Prospectus & link http://www.punjabteched.net/jet-2012/adm-jet12/Part-II.pdf.
• There shall be no cut-off marks in the JET. The candidates who appear in the JET–2017, (and who have not been otherwise disqualified) whose rank has been declared by the Board shall be eligible to appear in the counselling in the order of JET merit/ranking. Applying for, but not appearing at the JET shall not be sufficient to attain this eligibility.
•  There is no lower or upper age limit for admission.
•  Admission of candidates, who fulfil all other conditions for admission, shall be effected on the basis of the relative merit in Joint Entrance Test, subject to reservation of seats as per policy of Government.

For LEET Students :

All those candidates who have passed the following examinations would be eligible for consideration for Lateral Entry 2017-18 in various diploma courses:

• 12th Science with Vocational/Technical or 10th+(2 years ITI)Students passing 12th Science with Vocational/ Technical subjects or 10th+(2 years ITI) in that order shall be eligible for admission to second year Diploma Courses of appropriate program up to a maximum of 20% of sanctioned intake.
• Provided however if seats remained vacant then the same will be filled on the basis of inter-se-merit as perthe below mentioned eligibility criteria:
• ITI at least with one year (who passed 10th level School Leaving Examination before admission to ITI courses) from any Institution of Punjab/ Other state.
• 10+2 vocational examination in various branches from any institute of Punjab/ Other State.
• 10+2 with science from any institute of Punjab /Other state.
• Two years certificate course from Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology, Longowal and have Punjab Domicile.

Training and Placement Cell of the institute provides total support in defining the career of the students. The cell is trying to help the students in getting the suitable jobs.
