About Us:


The Central Agricultural University has been established by an act of Parliament, the Central Agricultural University Act, 1992 (No.40 of 1992). The Act came into effect on 26th January, 1993 with the issue of notification by the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE), Govt. of India. The University became functional with the joining of first Vice-Chancellor on 13th September, 1993. The jurisdiction of the University extends to six North-Eastern Hill States viz., Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Sikkim and Tripura, with headquarters at Imphal in Manipur.

 

The mission of the University is to be a centre of excellence in teaching, research and extension education in the field of agriculture and allied sectors. The University aims to develop sustainable farming systems for improving productivity and profitability in agriculture and allied sectors and also train the farmers and extension functionaries for the effective dissemination of advanced agricultural technologies in North-East India. The University acts as an important link in the chain for converting agriculture and allied vocations into profitable enterprises and offering food and nutritional security for the people of North-East region. To realize the above mission, University established seven colleges and three Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) in the six states of North-East India and offers Undergraduate and Postgraduate Degree Programmes in agriculture and allied sciences.

 

A competitive written examination on all India basis for admission to the Ph.D. degree programme in different constituent Colleges of Central Agricultural University, Imphal will be held on 25th August, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the College of Post Graduate Studies, Barapani, Meghalaya. However, preference will be given to candidates belonging to six North Eastern States falling under the jurisdiction of the University; namely – Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Sikkim and Tripura. Ph.D.

 

Eligibility:

 

The candidates for admission to Ph.D. programmes must have Master’s Degree in the concerned subject/discipline with a minimum of 60% marks or an OGPA of 7.00/10.00 or 3.75/5.00 or 3.00/4.00 for General/OBC candidates and 55% marks or an OGPA of 6.50/10.00 or 3.5/5.00 or 2.80/4.00 for SC/ST/PH candidates.

 

A good knowledge of English language.

 

Reservation: 15%, 7.5%, 27% and 3% seats will be reserved for SC, ST, OBC and PH as per the guidelines of Govt. of India. The reservation between SC and ST is interchangeable i.e. if sufficient numbers of candidates are not available to fill up the seats reserved for SC candidates, seat(s) can be filled up from among suitable ST candidate and vice-versa. However, vacant seats for OBC category are not interchangeable with any other categories.

 

The candidates seeking admission for Ph.D. programmes in this University as sponsored candidates should be on deputation terms/study leave.
