In memory of Dr.M. V. Shetty a Trust was founded in the year 1985. The Declaration of the Trust was registered Vide no.35/1985-86 on 17th of October 1985, as Dr. M. V. Shetty Memorial Trust ® with Dr. M. Ramgopal Shetty, an eminent Vascular Surgeon, Mangalore, Sri. K.Muthaya Shetty, an Industrialist from Bangalore and Mrs. Leelavathi Shetty of Mangalore as the Trustees. One of the objectives of the Trust is to open, run, continue educational and vocational institutions in healthy surroundings. The Trust came forward to establish a College of Nursing in the year 1987. In 1988 the Trust started the Institute of Professional Sciences and management which initiated a Bachelor of Hotel Management course. The Trust has added one more course, i.e. B.Sc. Nursing Post-Certificate Course in the College of Nursing from 1990.

The year 1991 saw the Trust inaugurating for the first time in Karnataka, a degree course in Physiotherapy (B.P.T.). Another degree course B.Sc. Speech and Hearing, was begun in the year 1991, making this college the second of its kind. The need for starting courses at a higher levels was felt and the Trust started the M.Sc. Nursing course from the year 1992-1993. The Post Graduate Degree course in Hospital Management, was added to the existing courses in the year 1993-94. In the year 1994-95 one more course, Diploma in General Nursing was started. The year 1995 also marked the establishment of a degree course in Radiography. A year later, a course leading to a Diploma in General Nursing commenced. Then, a Master’s degree course in Speech & Hearing was started in 1995-96 & it became the second college to introduce this course in Karnataka. The degree course in Medical Lab Technology was started in the year 1996-97 and Master of Social Work course was instituted in the year 1999-2000. All these courses are run in different colleges of the Trust having its own multi-storied building with spacious classrooms, up-to-date laboratories, modern equipment and the best libraries. Senior experienced and qualified faculty members have been appointed to teach these courses.

Eligibility:

• Candidates with 45% marks in the aggregate with Physics and Maths as compulsory subjects along with anyone of the following subjects. Chemistry/Bio-technology/Computer Science/Electronics/ Biology in their Pre-University or 12th standard or equivalent examinations recognized by the V.T.U.
• Candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC the minimum marks for purpose of eligibility shall be 40%
• Diploma candidates who have secured not less than 45% marks in the final year examination are also eligible. (For ST/SC/OBC candidates it is 40%)

Admissions Process: Attested copies of the following certificates should be sent along with the application form.

• S.S.L.C. Certificate (10th)
• Marks cards of the qualifying examination (10+2) or both 11th and 12th
• Pass certificate of 10+2 issued by the examination conducting authority
• Transfer certificate issued by the College/School
• Conduct certificate issued by the Principal
• Date of birth in Indian Almanac (A.D.)

Following Original Certificates should be submitted at the time of Admission with three sets of attested copies.

• S.S.L.C. (10th)
• Marks cards of the qualifying exam i.e. 10+2 (both 11th and 12th Year)
• Provisional Pass Certificate.
• Transfer certificate issued by the college
• Migration certificate issued by the University/Board
• Character/conduct certificate issued by the College/School last studied
• Physical fitness certificate issued by the Government Medical Officer
• Pass port size photograph – 5 - Stamp size photographs - 5

Facilities :

Library: The institution has a spacious library with a seating capacity for 150 students. It has 7276 volumes of books with 2252 titles. 47 national and 21 international journals are available in the library. The library has reprographic facilities.

Hostel: A separate hostels for boys and girls are provided at Mangalore and Moodabidri for 1st year students.

Transport Facilities: Dr. M.V.Shetty Memorial Trust maintains a fleet of vehicles including several buses to transport students to their respective study centers and to their respective hostels. The transport facility is also provided to students and the staff of the colleges from different places of Mangalore and surrounding area. The buses are also provided to the students for University related works, fests and for sports and cultural competitions held in different colleges.

Medical Facility: The trust is running a 100 bed hospital at Mangalore and medical facility will be provided to the students and staff. The doctors will be visiting to the college.

Internet Facility: The college has 2 MBPS leased line from BSNL Mangalore for the students and staff.
