Government Medical College, Ernakulam is one of the medical colleges in Kerala state situated at Kalamassery near Kochi. It was a government-owned institution established by the Co-operative Academy of Professional Education under the Department of Co-operation, Govt. of Kerala, established in the year 2000. The college has an intake capacity of 100 students for the MBBS course each year. It was taken over by the government of Kerala as a pure government institution on 11 December 2013. It is now known a Government Medical College, ernakulam.

Our laboratories are well equipped with facilities to do most of the biochemical Microbiological as well as clinical pathological investigations. The pathology department conducts cytopathological and histopathological investigations. Hospital blood bank is equipped with all modern facilities for safe bleeding and component separation and we are in a position to honour requests for whole blood or components from outside hospitals.

Eligibility :

MBBS : This is a four year Degree Programme with 1 year of internship.  The candidates who have passed the Higher Secondary Examination of the Board of Higher Secondary Education of Kerala or Equivalent examination recognized by any of the Universities in the state of Kerala with aggregate of 50% Marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English put together are eligible for admission. This course is recognized by the Indian Nursing Council. Total seat per batch is 60.

Admissions procedure :

• Government Medical College, Ernakulam (GMCE) is one among the premier Medical Instutions in the Kerala State. The Medical College is later known as Cochin Medical College, Cochin was governed by the Co-operative Academy of Professional Education established by the Government of Kerala. Later from December 2013 the Government of Kerala taken over the Medical College and renamed as Government Medical College, Ernakulam and now this institution is under the control of Directorate of Medical Education, Kerala.
• A student is eligible for entry to the course after clearing the 12th class (Intermediate) examination. The admission to the 100 MBBS seats are based on the allotment of Controller of Entrance Examinations, Kerala.  The functioning of the college is according to the rules and regulations formulated by the Government of Kerala.

Nationality: Admission is open to all Indian citizens.

Hostel  : Hostel accommodation is available for all the students. There are separate hostel facilities for boys and girls, with spacious rooms three, double and single bedded. Basic furniture is provided in the rooms. They also have common rooms for recreation facilities, reading rooms and TV room. Round the clock security is provided to all the hostels. Each hostel have a mess hall with seating capacity of more than 150 people and the mess is run by students themselves under a common dividing system.Students will be under the disciplinary control of the assistant wardens and the wardens.The institution lays special emphasis on sports activities which are monitored by an experienced and highly qualified Physical Director. The campus has facilities for all the out door games like cricket, football, volley ball, lawn tennis, throw ball,shuttle badminton, table tennis etc. A multigym facility is available for all the students in the campus.
