IIITG is one of the 20 IIITs being set up by the Central Govt. in NPPP (not-for-profit public private partnership) mode.IIITG started operations in August 2013. There are now three UG batches with a total strength of 179 students, and with 7 PhD students, there are 186 students in the Institute.IIITG is operating from temporary premises in the Assam Textile Institute Campus at the heart of the city. There are two 8 Mbps Internet links. A 100 Mbps NKN link is under implementation.

Students and most of the faculty are staying in a flat complex where a number of flats have been taken on rent by the Institute. The flat complex is connected to the Institute by a wireless link and there is a wi-fi network in the flat complex. Eligibility :

B.Tech : Seats filled up on the basis of the All-India Quota of the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) for the JEE (Main) examination administered by CBSE.

B Tech Fee Structure 2015: Tuition Fee for IIIT Guwahati is Rs. 48,850/- Per Semester.

Ph.D : For admission to the PhD Programme in CSE and ECE, a candidate must satisfy one of the following criteria:

• Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology in the relevant area with a minimum Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of 6.5 or 60% of marks.
• Four-year Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology/Medical Sciences or equivalent in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 70% of marks.

For admission to the Ph.D Programme in English, a candidate must satisfy one of the following criteria:

• M.A in Linguistics with at least 55% marks or a CPI of 6.0

RESERVATIONS ( SC, ST, OBC(Non-creamy layer) and PD categories) : Eligibility criteria will be relaxed by 5% marks or 0.5 CPI for SC/ST/PD applicants. Reservation is as per GOI rules. OBC(Non-creamy layer) candidates will have to enclose certificate and self-declaration statement as per format indicated below. The OBC( NCL) Certificate, issued by competent authority, on or after 01-06-2013, shall only be acceptable.
