About Us:


Institute of Hotel Management, Catering Technology & Applied Nutrition, Kolkata, one of the premier hotel management schools in the country, was established in April, 1963 with the regular classes starting from November, in the same year. The Institute was shifted to its own and present location at P-16, Taratala Road, Kolkata - 700 088 in June, 1980. Originally affiliated to the State Council for Engineering & Technical Education,

 

Govt. of West Bengal, the Institute subsequently got affiliated to the National Council for Hotel Management & Catering Technology, New Delhi. The Degree is being offered in (B.Sc) Hospitality and Hotel Administration jointly by National Council for Hotel Management & Catering Technology, New Delhi and Indira Gandhi Open University, New Delhi. The Institute is sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, Government of India and is governed by a society registered under the Societies Registration Act (XXI of 1860). The Institute and its curricula have been designed to train promising and talented young boys and girls in hospitality management. The whole gamut of hospitality and hotel operations is covered in specific fields like Food Production, Patisserie, Food & Beverage Service, accommodation Operation, Front Office etc. Under the able guidance of a trained and experienced team of faculty, the Institute aims to professionally equip the trainees to take up positions of responsibility in various branches of the hospitality industry. In short to offer them a professional career.

 

The Institute of Hotel Management, Catering Technology and Applied Nutrition, Kolkata is sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. The Institute is pledged to train promising men and women in hotel management, general food management and catering technology, and in specific fields such as cookery bakery, food & beverage service, reception, accountancy, house-keeping management and allied topics, depending on the branch of the industry which the trainee desires to take up. Practical presentation and emphasis on nutritional values will be significant aspects of the technical training given to the students. The institute has all modern facilities for practical training. There are five fully equipped kitchens and two laboratories for bakery and confectionary. A well equipped restaurant to learn the classical style of Food and Beverage service. A well-stacked library with over 8000 books. A huge House Keeping practical laboratory with heavy-duty machinery and three mock guest rooms for practical. The computer laboratory is well equipped for individual practice sessions.

 

The Bachelor of Science programme in Hospitality and Hotel Administration is offered by the National Council and the Indira Gandhi National Open University. The Three - Year Programme equips trainees with the required skills, knowledge and attitude to efficiently discharge supervisory responsibilities in the hospitality sector. The Bachelor of Science programme comprise in-depth laboratory work for students to acquire the required knowledge and skill standards in the operational areas of Food Production, Food and Beverage Service, Front Office Operation and House Keeping. It also imparts substantial managerial inputs in subject such as Sales and Marketing, Financial Management, Human Resource Management, Hotel and Catering Law, Property Management, Entrepreneurship Development and other related subjects.

Eligibility:

  • Minimum Qualification: Minimum qualification for admission is a pass certificate in the final examination of 10+2 system or its equivalent. The candidate must have passed at least one public (Board or Pre-University) examination. Those appearing in 10+2 final or equivalent examination can also appear in JEE 2005 for being considered on provisional basis. Provisional admission will stand cancelled if proof of having passed the qualifying examination (10+2 or its equivalent) is not submitted to the concerned Institute by a stipulated time. If an applicant is found ineligible at a later date even after admission to an Institute, his/her admission will be cancelled. Admission will be subject to verification of facts from the original certificates/documents to be produced by the candidate. Decision of National Council regarding eligibility shall be final.
  • Physical Fitness: All qualified candidates will have to submit a certificate of physical fitness from a Registered Medical Practitioner in the prescribed format given in the Information Brochure. Admission at the allotted Institute will be granted only if the candidate is declared physically fit for pursuing the course of study.
  • Age limit: Only those candidates whose date of birth falls on after July 01, 1983 are eligible. In the case of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates, upper age limit is relaxable by 3 years. For these two categories born on or after July 01, 1980 will be eligible. Date of birth as recorded in the Secondary Education Board/Pre-University Certificate is the only authentic proof that will be accepted. At the time of counseling, this Certificate must be produced in original as a proof of age, failing which the candidate will be disqualified.

For B.Sc in HHA:

  • 10+2 or equivalent

For PGDAOM:

  • Graduation in any Stream with English as a subject.

For Other Programmes:

  • 10th Class pass of 10+2.  

Medical Facilities: Working in the hotel industry demands not only a sound mind but a robust health also. To ensure that a student remains healthy all through his learning period, a qualified medical practitioner visits the Institute twice a week. The doctor is available at the hostels on the weekends too. In case of any sudden illness, he is always available on call. Standard First aid facility is also made available to the students in the practical labs.

 

Other Activities: Sports & Games, Food Fests, Cultural Programmes, Chef Contests (Inter & Intra Institutes) and social activities like Blood Donation Camps etc. are organized from time to time.

All fees are payable in cash or by Bank Draft drawn in favour of Institute of Hotel Management, Catering Technology and Applied Nutrition, Kolkata. All transactions must be carried out through the Institute cash counter only The Institute will not be responsible for fees paid to any person other than the cashier.
