Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology is one of the ISO 9001:2000 Certified premier educational institutions, established under Manjara Charitable Trust in 1992, providing high quality engineering & management education in Mumbai. It is affiliated to the University of Mumbai & approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. The institute has been awarded “A” grade by the Government of Maharashtra. At its inception, in 1992, the institute started 3 undergraduate programmes namely, B.E. in Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering & Mechanical Engineering. With an intake of 60 students each. In 1995 - 96, the institute introduced Bachelors in Computer Engineering Programme with an intake of 60 students. The institute was renamed as Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology in the memory of the great son of land, Shri Rajiv Gandhi in the year 1998. In November 2001, the college shifted to the permanent campus at Survey No.161 & CTS No.1376 / 1 / 48, Juhu - Versova Link Road, Andheri (W), Mumbai. It is built on more than 5 acres of land covering 16,500 sq m of actual built up area alongside the green & luxurious Versova beach. With India becoming the leader in IT sector, there is an increasing demand for quality software products. In response, the Institute started Bachelor of Information Technology programme in year 2003. Master in Engineering (M.E. Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering) & M.E. Mechanical Engineering (Heat Power) with intake of 18, Stared in the academic year 2012 - 13. Master in Engineering (M.E. Computer Network & Information Security) Started in the year 2014 - 15. Mumbai University has approved RGIT as one of research centre of University in year 2013 - 14 with intake of 10 students.
