About Us :

 

NIT Durgapur is located about 160 KMs north-west of Kolkata on the Howrah-Delhi Main Railway-Route and overlooking the National Highway No. 2(the great Grand- Trunk Road). The Institute spreads over an area of 187 acres of land.The institute was established by an Act of Parliament in 1960 as one of the eight such colleges aimed to function as a pace setter for engineering education in the country and to foster national integration. It is a fully-funded premier Technological Institution of the Government of India and is administered by an autonomous Board of Governors.

Eligibility:

 

For B.Tech : Admission criteria to Undergraduate Engineering Programs at NITs, IIITs, Other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions, Institutions funded by participating State Governments, and other Institutions shall include the performance in the class 12/equivalent qualifying Examination and in the Joint Entrance Examination, JEE (Main). The Paper-1 (B. E./B. Tech.) of JEE (Main) will also be an eligibility test for the JEE (Advanced), which the candidate has to take if he/she is aspiring for admission to the undergraduate programmes offered by the IITs.

  • Admission Procedure : As decided by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, the procedure for selection of candidates for admission to the Bachelor of Technology Courses in National Institute of Technology Durgapur and in other NITs is on the basis of AIR in JEE (Main) 2014 published by Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, and the same is executed through counseling by Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB - 2014) under guidance from MHRD, GOI as per schedule notified by CSAB.

For M.Sc. : Three-year regular B. Sc. (Hons./ Pass) with minimum 60% marks / 6.5 CGPA in the relevant discipline. A relaxation of 5% marks or 0.5 CGPA is applicable for SC/ST candidates.

  • Admission Procedure : The selection for M. Sc. programme in Physics/ Chemistry/Mathematics is through centralized e-counselling, CCMN based on JAM score. Admission of a student to the M. Sc. programme shall automatically stand cancelled if he/she fails to attend

For MCA Programme : Candidates with an aggregate of 60% marks (6.5 CGPA) in Bachelor’s degree (RegularCourse) of minimum 3-years duration from a recognized university in any discipline, withMathematics as one of the subjects both in Graduation and at 10+2 level are eligible while SC/ST candidates are eligible with 55% marks.

  • Admission Procedure : Admission to MCA programme is made through entrance test and e-counselling, NIMCET.All seats (General & reserved category) are filled up from the merit list of NIMCET on the basis of All India Rank (AIR).

For MBA : Graduates (minimum 10+2+3 format) in any discipline with minimum 55% marks in graduation are eligible with a relaxation of 5 % marks for SC/ST and Persons with Disability category.


Admission Procedure

  • Eligible candidates are shortlisted for Personal Appearance (PA) process based on CAT score. The cut off score is decided by the admission committee based on the number of total applicants.
  • PA process is conducted. PA process consists of Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI)
  • Merit List is prepared by the department based on CAT score (75%), PI (15%) & GD (10%) score.

For M.Tech : B.Tech

 

Admission procedure :

  • The selection is based on 30% weightage on Percentage of Marks / CGPA obtained in the last qualifying examination, 30% weightage on written Admission Test, and 40% weightage on viva-voce in respective departments at NIT Durgapur. A screening may be made after the written test and the list of candidates to appear for viva voce will be published by the respective departments.  
  • Sponsored candidates must have a minimum of two years full-time work experience in a registered Firm/ Company /Industry /Educational or Research Institutions/ any Government Autonomous Organizations in the relevant field in which admission is being sought. A letter from the employer must be furnished along with the application stating that the candidate is being sponsored to get admission. The Employer should also indicate that the candidate will not be withdrawn midway till the completion of the programme and will not claim for a job through Campus interview at NIT Durgapur.
  • Employed candidates may apply for admission to Part-time M Tech programmes. A No-Objection Certificate from the Employer is essential for admission to M. Tech. programme for a part-time candidate and their working place must be within 30 km from NIT, Durgapur

Placement: 

Training & Placement : 
The Placement Office facilitates in securing placements for students passing out from the Institute. The office keeps close liaison with various industrial establishments (both private and public sectors), which conduct campus interviews and select graduate and post-graduate students from all disciplines. The Placement Cell provides the infra-structural facilities to conduct group discussions, tests and interviews. The Office interacts with over 150 industries in the country, of which nearly 50 companies visit the campus for holding campus interviews. The industries which approach the institute can be broadly categorized as :

The Placement Office is assisted by a committee comprising of representatives of students from the under-graduate and post-graduate streams.
