Founded in 2010 by H. H. Shri Vishwavallabha Theertha Swamiji of Shri Sode Vadiraja Mutt – one of the 700 plus years old Ashta Mutts associated with the world famous Shri Krishna temple of Udupi in Karnataka – Shri MadhwaVadiraja Institute of Technology & Management (SMVITM), situated at Bantakal in Udupi has carved a niche for itself in imparting quality engineering education in the coastal Karnataka region. Shri Swamiji started the institute with the sublime objective of providing quality higher education to the needy student community at affordable costs. The motto Engineering your Career and Character with Care well reflects the objectives and philosophy of the institute. Despite, being the youngest institute in the region, SMVITM has made remarkable strides in its journey towards excellence over the past five years and has emerged as the most promising engineering institute with its well-qualified and motivated faculty, state-of-the-art infrastructure and distinguished learning-centric facilities. At present, SMVITM, with a total student intake of 441 per year, offers Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) courses in Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering Electronics & Communication Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. Currently, 1612 students are pursuing their engineering education at the institute. Despite being located in a rural area, SMVITM ensures that its students are well trained in existing engineering practices and acquainted with the latest industrial trends.

The campus is conveniently located at Bantakal, which is about 6 km off the stretch of NH 66 that connects the coastal cities of Mangaluru (Mangalore) and Udupi. The campus is just 18 km away from Manipal, one of the well known educational hubs in South India and 12 km away from Udupi town. Udupi is well connected by road, rail and air to all the major cities across the country. The institute has well-furnished in-campus as well as off-campus hostels with all modern amenities, separately for boys and girls. The institute is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi; approved by the All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi and recognized by the Government of Karnataka. The accomplishments of SMVITM have already garnered well-deserved recognition and widespread praise from eminent personalities across the spectrum. Late Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, former President of India, having admired the vision and value addition to engineering education taking place at the institute, made a visit to the campus and appreciated the holistic education imparted at SMVITM and inspired the students in 2014. Shri A. S. Kiran Kumar, Chairman, ISRO; Dr. B. N. Suresh, Distinguished Scientist, ISRO; Justice Dr. M. Rama Jois and many more renowned scientists, technocrats and educationists have visited the institute to motivate and guide the students.

Owing to its exalted Vision, Mission and Objectives; commitment to the cause of education and remarkable accomplishments, SMVITM is consistently maintaining record admissions of more than 90 per cent of the intake for the last three years. Though the institution is still taking off, the achievements of its students, faculty and staff are many and commendable. The institute is growing fast, scaling greater heights by concentrating on excellence in education, research and promotion of placement & entrepreneurship through industry-academia tie-ups and value added programs. Eligibility:

For BE : The candidate should have passed in 2nd  PUC / 12th Std. with English as one of the languages and obtained a minimum of 45% marks in aggregate in Physics and Mathematics along with Chemistry / Biotechnology / Biology / Electronics / Computer.  (40% for SC, ST, Cat-1, 2A, 2B, 3A & 3B category candidates).

second year (Lateral Entry) : The candidate should have passed a three year diploma course from an AICTE approved institution with a minimum of 45% marks in aggregate in appropriate branch of Engineering / Technology (40% for SC, ST, Cat-1, 2A, 2B, 3A & 3B category candidates).

Or 

Passed B. Sc Degree from a UGC recognized University with a minimum of 45% marks in aggregate (40% for SC, ST, Cat-1, 2A, 2B, 3A & 3B category candidates) and passed 12th Std. with Mathematics as one of the subjects.

Facilities:

Hostel: Institution has separate in-campus hostels for both boys and girls. All rooms in these hostels are provided with all basic amenities/modern facilities for comfortable boarding. Centralised recreation facilities and a vegetarian mess are also provided. Mess Committee concept with student representation is also introduced.

Medical Aid: College provides medical aid for the students in emergency cases. Medical Doctors visit the college on call, for any medical needs of students and staff members.

Bank and ATM Facility: Karnataka Bank ATM facility is provided for the students inside the campus.

Library: The central library has over 8800 volumes of reference/text books with over 1500 titles. Also the library subscribes 42 national journals, 21 international journals and three e-journals of high repute (IEEE, J-Gate and ASTM digital library), in addition to leading dailies and magazines. Reading Hall of over 150 seating capacity, multimedia laboratory and e-learning centre providing live transmission of VTU EDUSAT programme, are added features. Book Bank facility is also available for the needy students.

Placement:

Getting placed by the end of their graduation is the dream of every engineering student. Some will succeed to realize this dream and some may not! At SMVITM, we join hands with students to realize this dream to the best possible level. We have an active Training and Placement Department functioning since 2011-12 academic year. At SMVITM, the Department of Training and Placement is the bridge between Industry and Academia to establish a valued relationship and collaborative long term association and thereby promoting partnership between Business and Education. The department takes care of training the students to face campus recruitment tests and interviews through several soft skill/communication skill and personality development programs/workshops on a regular basis. The department identifies the renowned resource persons from the Industry/Academia who have vast experience in these areas and arranges training programs by them for the benefit of the students. The department also arranges industrial training to the interested students at the company premises and courtesy visits of industrial personnel to the institute.

Initiatives are being taken to have some tie-ups with leading industries/consortiums on campus recruitment, for the purpose of campus placements in the near future. It is planned to interact with premier Industries for sending selected students to their premises directly for recruitment opportunities. Efforts are made to promote institute-industry interface through regular guest lectures/workshops/conferences, visiting professorships, industry visits, campus connect programs and industry-institute interactive meets. In addition to this, the department in association with the Entrepreneurship Development Cell organizes several programs like Entrepreneurship Awareness Camps, Invited Talks/workshops by successful entrepreneurs to inspire and guide the interested students towards self-employment and helping the desirous students to productize/commercialize their creative ideas. In collaboration with District Industries Centre (DIC) and Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME), a Unit of Govt. of India; Technology Business Incubator in the areas of local interest and demand like IT sector, Self Employment Awareness & Training programs, Student Project Work Facilitation in local industries and many more such industry-institute interaction programs are being planned and implemented. It is also envisaged to introduce Industry-oriented/sponsored courses to improve employability, encourage technology transfers between institute and industries, incubate industry-on-campus, build sponsored Technology Parks in the institute campus, get ample consultancy projects/testing offers and establish Industry sponsored laboratories/Centers of Excellence. A full-fledged, spacious Training and Placement Center with modern facilities will be ready to function soon to cater to the needs of students/Industry personnel for facilitating campus recruitment at SMVITM campus. We solicit support from the industries/enterprises by way of visiting the institute campus, interacting with the students and faculty, assessing the general and technical competency level of the students, offering placement/hands-on training opportunities to the deserving students and encouraging them towards successful academic pursuit.
