About HIHT:

 

The HIHT University has been established under the aegis of the Himalayan Institute Hospital Trust, which is the sponsoring society of the University. In 1989, the founder, Shri Swami Rama after returning from the United States, started purchasing land for his dream project in the foothills of the Himalayas in the district of Dehradun.

 

Starting with a small OPD in 1989, a 250 bed hospital began functioning in 1994. Soon therefore, the construction of a medical college began. On the recommendation of the Medical Council of India, the Govt. of India granted permission to start the medical college in 1995. In the year 2000, the college was recognized for the graduate (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) programme. The College started Postgraduate programmes in various specialities in 2001, with the prior approval of the Medical Council of India and Govt. of India. These postgraduate programmes got final recognition from the Medical Council of India in 2004. Vide notification No F.9- 43/2006 U.3 (A) dated 6th June 2007, the Government of India granted Deemed University status to the Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences. Subsequently, the name of the deemed university was changed, from Swami Ram Vidhyapeeth to HIHT University, by the Government of India on 4th March, 2008. The University is established under section 3 of University Grants Commission Act 1956.

 

The Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) is a four and a half year programme. The University admits 100 students every year for this programme. Thrity percent of the seats are reserved for candidates of Uttarakhand. The programme is recognized by the Medical Council of India. All the students pursuing this programme are required to complete a one year rotatory Internship as per the norms of the Medical Council of India.

 

Pattern of Pre Medical Entrance Examination:

 

The entrance examination will be objective type with multiple choice answers (A,B,C,D) out of which only one shall be the most appropriate answer. The examination paper consists of 200 questions and the subject wise distribution will be Physics - 40, Chemistry - 60, Biology - 100. Each correct answer shall be awarded ONE mark. Zero marks shall be given to 'no response' and 'incorrect' answers. More than one choice indicated against the question shall be considered as an incorrect response and ZERO marks will be given. There is no negative marking. The duration of the examination will be 2 ½ hours (150 minutes).

Eligibility:


Candidates must have passed the 10+2 i.e. ISC/Intermediate examination or it's equivalent, after a period of 12 years of study, the last two years of such study, comprising of Physics, Chemistry and Biology and English from a recognized board/ university and the candidate must have passed in all the subjects. The candidate must have passed in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Biology and English individually and must have obtained a minimum of 60% (for SC/ST/OBC candidates 50%) marks in aggregate taken together in Physics, Chemistry and Biology and atleast 50% (for SC/ST/OBC candidates 45%) marks separately in each of the above subjects in the qualifying examination.

 

Candidates who are appearing in the qualifying examination and whose results are not available are also eligible to appear in the entrance examination. However, they must submit the marks sheet on or before the date specified in the information brochure.

 

Admission Procedure:


Every year in the month of May, the University conducts the all India level Pre Medical Entrance Examination (PMEE). A merit list is prepared based on this examination. The candidates are called for counseling in the month of June/July. The session starts in August. Thirty percent of the seats are earmarked for candidates of Uttarakhand. The programmes are all recognized by the Medical Council of India.

 

Age: A candidate who has completed at least 17 years of age as of 31st December of the year of admission is eligible.
